John Franks is a well-respected and experienced child and family therapist. Since 1985, John has worked with children, adolescents and their families in a broad range of treatment models including individual, family and group therapy in an outpatient, inpatient and home setting. He also has particular expertise and interest related to the needs of the victims of domestic violence especially those with a history of emotional or physical abuse.

The range and depth of John’s clinical experience contributes to his ability to deliver effective supervision to our staff of family-based therapists on a consistent basis. John believes that all therapists must have a thorough understanding of family-systems issues relevant to each case. For this to happen, each therapist must effectively assess the nuclear/extended family for its impact on the effective functioning of the family and be able to identify and access unrecognized strengths to support the healthy development of the child.

John’s family therapy experience, combined with his special interest in domestic violence issues, allows him to provide cogent insight regarding the effect ecosystemic factors have on child/family safety, permanency and well being. His insight helps support our staff in their effort to help patients achieve the goals of treatment.

John strongly believes that effective case management and the accessing of community based resources to support identified strengths is a key to achieving a successful outcome.
